“Holding a Mirror” by Roni Taharlev, 2020
Art Portfolio two was quite different from Art Portfolio one, because I finally chose the right progression for myself, from interior design to fine art, and I feel that I am at the right path. Another aspect that made it interesting is that we had a certain project idea - the Cromwell tragedy. The main concept of all of our projects required us to rebuild a city after a tragedy caused by a horrible fire. It caused us all to think creatively but meet the brief at the same time. I felt that this task was challenging for a fine artist, and would probably fit an architect more, but it was a rewarding experience, because I taught myself to come up with interesting concepts for my work and work within a certain idea.
Creating this portfolio helped me discover my work in different ways, as each piece represents a milestone in my artistic development, reflecting my evolving skills and expanding my creative worldview. This term I explored new softwares, an example being the Procreate app as well as new media and techniques such as making a canvas, live portrait making, creating a interconnected series of paintings, and practicing sculpture making. The experimentation aspect of my experience here helped me understand what I like and my strengths as an artist and the challenges I encountered taught me the importance of patience, as some pieces demanded more time and effort than others.
My work draws inspiration from nature, human figure and emotions, the subjects I love exploring the most. Through this portfolio, I aimed to convey not just visual appeal, but also a sense of narrative and emotional depth. Looking back, I am proud of how far I’ve come and excited for the endless possibilities ahead.
In conclusion, the art portfolio module has been a transforming experience. From making my projects and reflecting on them to fighting my bad habits, each aspect of this journey has contributed to my growth as a student and an artist.
