 What is branding in graphic design?

What other people think about you, your business, your product, or your service is your branding. Visual identity incorporates everything about a company, including colour schemes, logos, and much more. (edu.gcfglobal.org, 2023)

Branding is all about the visual properties of the company that is being promoted, the stronger the visuals are the better represented the company will be. The design of company brand implies what the company is about and it attracts the target audience by stating what it is. Having a brand or a "personality" of the company means having a visual identity. 

The visual identity functions as a sort of glimpse of your brand. Every element in your design serves as a hint, letting the audience know what to expect. Since every brand is unique, you can choose a traditional, modern, or somewhat more outrageous aesthetic. All of your design components come together to convey your brand's core message.
