Week 2: Advertising

 Greetings, it's Aiya!

Today's topic is advertisements and their designs.

An advert.

A very interesting example is a popular russian rave band - LITTLE BIG. From a very early age, I used to watch their (not so children-friendly) music videos. They included nudity, sensitive imagery, blood and such, but I was never repulsed even as a child. Although, that might just be me.

following pictures are from the music clip for Hateful Love, LITTLE BIG.

Every music video has a deeper, sometimes political meaning and they are very conciderate about their visuals, and they openly go against forced sexist, racist and old standarts and make statements.

But what I love about them, is their way of advertising their music videos, new music releases and concerts.

This is the cover of their "COVERS" mini album. It's a pardosy of Nirvana's "Nevermind" album.

I think it's a very clever parody, since the COVERS album consists of songs LITTLE BIG covered from other legendary artist. And the cover also works as an effective advertisement, because people are going to be very curious to see a legendary cover used as a parody and actually used as an album cover.

Advert design and layout.

It is important to carefully select your ad design and laying it out is sometimes a challenge. So researching this subject is important.

"Advertising layout is the arrangement of visual elements in an ad, such as images, text, colors, and shapes. It influences how people perceive and respond to your message, so it's important to create effective layouts that capture attention, communicate clearly, and persuade action."

Using text and image in advertising.

Having a balanced image is very important to persuade and attract as much people as it is possible, and make the image easy to take in and understand. In this case less is more.

"The 20% text rule on Facebook advertising is a guideline implemented by the social media platform that applies to many types of images used in ads. This rule limits what percentage of an image may be covered with text — in this case, no more than 20%."

What is a Tagline?

What do you imagine when people say "Just do it."? Many people would say that Nike comes to minds immediately. Why is that?

"A tagline is a brief phrase used to relay a brand's value. Companies use taglines in marketing campaigns to create a lasting impression on consumers. Taglines tell consumers about the overall company without mentioning the product or service they offer."
What is a logo?

Every company, app, website and even music bands need a logo. A logo to remember, carefully designed to depict what they are about and maybe even tell a story.

"Logos are images, texts, shapes, or a combination of the three that depict the name and purpose of a business – to put it simply. However, a logo can and should be more than a symbol of identification. If designed well, it also tells a company's story, by conveying your brand message."

McDonald's logo.

The message in advertising

Every company has history, and it is important to tell people about it.
Marketing messaging represents how a brand communicates to its customers and highlights the value of its products. “Messages” refer to not only the actual words and phrases used by a brand in advertising but also feelings and emotions associated with what they say."

Methods of attracting attention in advertising

The purpose of an ad is persuading and attracting more people to the matter of subject that you are "selling". So in order to do that you have to understand how a human brain works, how to get attention with psychological methods.
